Long-term enrichment of anaerobic propionate-oxidizing consortia: Syntrophic culture development and growth optimization

Md Abu Hanifa Jannat et al.

Summary: The study enriched propionate degrading consortia from four different seeding sources and identified dominant syntrophic microbial groups through 16s rRNA gene based metagenomics analysis. Accelerated microbial shifts were observed at high-strength phase with a significant decrease of Syntrophaceae up to 26.9%. Response Surface Methodology revealed that pH 6.8-6.9 and temperature 34.5-34.9 C-omicron were optimum growth conditions for the propionate degradation culture.
