On-line analysis of the correlation between gasification characteristics and microstructure of woody biowaste after hydrothermal carbonization

Mingxun Zeng et al.

Summary: This study pretreated poplar sawdust by hydrothermal carbonization and found that the fixed carbon and higher calorific value of hydrochars significantly increased. The cold gas efficiency also improved, with carbon structure having a greater impact on hydrochars gasification characteristics. The crystallinity of hydrochars showed correlation with the total yield and H2/CO of syngas.

Characterization of Activated Carbons Prepared from Almond Shells and Their Hydrogen Storage Properties

Zeynep Bicil et al.

Summary: In this study, activated carbons were prepared from almond shells using chemical activation with zinc chloride and microwave irradiation methods under a nitrogen atmosphere. The effects of microwave irradiation times, powers, and agent ratios on the pore volumes and BET surface areas of the activated carbons were investigated. Experimental results showed that increasing microwave irradiation time, power, and agent ratio led to higher BET surface areas and total pore volumes of the activated carbons.
