Monitoring damage evolution of ceramic matrix composites during tensile tests using electrical resistivity: Crack density-based electromechanical model

J. P. Goulmy et al.

Summary: Three ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) were characterized in tension to further develop and understand the data provided by electrical resistance measurements. The observed changes in electrical resistance were compared to acoustic emission spectra and classical unloading/reloading cycles. A model was proposed to predict the evolution of resistance as a function of the damage state of the three composites, providing accurate results for materials with different mechanical and physical behaviors.

A micromechanical tension-tension fatigue hysteresis loops model of fiber-reinforced ceramic-matrix composites considering stochastic matrix fragmentation

Longbiao Li

Summary: A micromechanical tension-tension fatigue hysteresis loops model of fiber-reinforced ceramic-matrix composites (CMCs) is developed, considering synergistic effects of stochastic matrix fragmentation and interface debonding. Experimental fatigue hysteresis loops of two different CMCs are predicted based on the model, and the effects of fiber volume and interfacial shear stress on fatigue hysteresis loops are discussed.

Micromechanical modeling of cyclic non-closure hysteresis loops of fiber-reinforced ceramic-matrix composites considering variable matrix fragmentation density

Longbiao Li

Summary: The cyclic loading/unloading non-closure hysteresis behavior of fiber-reinforced ceramic-matrix composites (CMCs) was investigated, taking into account variable matrix fragmentation density. Relationships between non-closure hysteresis loops, inverse tangent modulus, and interface slip ratio were established, while the effects of composite constituent and interface properties on non-closure hysteresis loops of SiC/SiC were analyzed.

Micromechanical modeling of loading rate-dependent tensile damage and fracture behavior in fiber-reinforced ceramic-matrix composites

Longbiao Li

Summary: This paper investigates the loading rate-dependent tensile damage and fracture behavior of fiber-reinforced ceramic-matrix composites (CMCs) through experimental data and a developed model. The study predicts the mechanical properties of different CMCs under various strain rates and analyzes the effects of factors such as fiber preforms, testing temperature, and fabrication method on the damage and fracture behavior of the composites.

Effect of stochastic brittle fragmentations on cyclic loading/unloading hysteresis behavior of fiber-reinforced ceramic-matrix composites

Longbiao Li

Summary: Under monotonic and cyclic tensile loading, stochastic brittle fragmentations significantly influence the mechanical behavior of fiber-reinforced ceramic-matrix composites (CMCs). Experimental and theoretical models were used to study the synergistic effects of matrix and fiber fragmentations on loading/unloading hysteresis behavior. The study also analyzed the impacts of fiber volume fraction and strength on the hysteresis loops of CMCs, providing valuable insights for composite material design optimization.
