Phase tuning of ZrO2 supported cobalt catalysts for hydrodeoxygenation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-dimethylfuran under mild conditions

Tianci Xiao et al.

Summary: The crystal structure of catalyst support plays a significant role in influencing its surface and electronic properties, thereby affecting catalytic activity. By preparing monoclinic, tetragonal, and mixed phase Co/ZrO2 catalysts, different hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis activities were observed in the conversion of HMF to DMF. The interaction between cobalt and t-ZrO2 resulted in higher hydrogenation activity, while the presence of acid concentration on the surface of Co/m-ZrO2 led to higher efficiency in hydrogenolysis reactions. The combination of high hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis activities in Co/Mix-ZrO2 achieved the highest yield of DMF under mild conditions.

Recent progress in syngas production via catalytic CO2 hydrogenation reaction

Ali M. Bahmanpour et al.

Summary: The recent progress in catalyst design and understanding of the reaction mechanism for the RWGS reaction has led to the introduction of new promising catalysts, particularly in terms of catalyst stability at high temperatures. However, there is still room for improvement in this area for the conversion of CO2 to fuels.

Ru on N-doped carbon supports for the direct hydrogenation of cellobiose into sorbitol

Samuel Carlier et al.

Summary: The study attempted a two-steps transformation of cellobiose using a single catalytic material, successfully hydrogenating glucose into sorbitol with Ru nanoparticles on carbon supports. N-doped carbon materials increased the activity of Ru nanoparticles but had no effect on cellobiose hydrolysis. The bifunctional catalysts showed no signs of deactivation after repeated use.
