Early Physiological and Cellular Indicators of Cisplatin-Induced Ototoxicity

Yingying Chen et al.

Summary: This study identified early changes in spiral ganglion-associated function and cells after cisplatin treatment, which occurred before significant threshold shifts. Synaptic loss between inner hair cells and spiral ganglion neurons was found to be a major form of early cochlear damage induced by cisplatin exposure. Mitochondrial loss was also observed in the cochlear base, indicating early ototoxicity.

Mitochondrial integration and ovarian cancer chemotherapy resistance

Luyan Shen et al.

Summary: Ovarian cancer, known as the silent killer, is often diagnosed in advanced stages due to its insignificant early symptoms. High recurrence rates and chemotherapy resistance contribute to the high mortality rate of patients. Mitochondria play a key role in chemotherapy resistance in ovarian cancer, highlighting the importance of targeting mitochondrial function for novel anti-cancer therapies.

Sepideh Mirzaei et al.

Summary: The failure of chemotherapy is a major challenge nowadays, and understanding the molecular pathways and mechanisms involved in chemoresistance is crucial for effective treatment of cancer patients. By regulating ROS and related molecular pathways, the sensitivity of cisplatin can be increased, leading to effective cancer treatment.

Nrf2 signaling pathway in cisplatin chemotherapy: Potential involvement in organ protection and chemoresistance

Sepideh Mirzaei et al.

Summary: Nrf2 signaling plays a crucial role in protecting against oxidative damage, but its activation in cancer cells can lead to chemoresistance. Modulating Nrf2 signaling during cisplatin treatment can suppress the development of chemoresistance and alleviate drug toxicity. Activating Nrf2 signaling can help prevent the side effects of cisplatin.

Cisplatin-induced ototoxicity: Updates on molecular mechanisms and otoprotective strategies

Qing Tang et al.

Summary: Cisplatin, an effective antitumor drug for solid malignant tumors, is known to cause ototoxicity, which manifests as progressive, bilateral, and irreversible hearing loss. The ototoxicity is primarily related to reactive oxygen species production and activation of the apoptotic pathway in cochlear tissues. Despite protective strategies being developed, systemic administration of drugs for hearing protection may weaken cisplatin's anticancer effect.
