Plant immune system activation is necessary for efficient root colonization by auxin-secreting beneficial bacteria

Elhanan Tzipilevich et al.

Summary: The study explored the interaction between plants and beneficial bacteria, revealing that activation of the plant immune system is crucial for efficient bacterial colonization and auxin secretion. A feedback loop was established where bacterial colonization triggers an immune reaction and production of reactive oxygen species, which in turn stimulates auxin production by the bacteria. This mutual feedback loop promotes the fitness of both partners.

Molecular mechanism of the repressive phase of the mammalian circadian clock

Xuemei Cao et al.

Summary: The mammalian circadian clock is regulated by a transcription-translation feedback loop involving CLOCK-BMAL1 activators and CRY-PER repressors. Previous studies have shown that CRY and CRY-PER inhibit CLOCK-BMAL1 in different mechanisms. This study reveals the involvement of CRY-PER in displacing CLOCK-BMAL1 by recruiting CK1 delta, leading to the dissociation of CLOCK-BMAL1 from the E-box.

Tangeretin inhibits fungal ferroptosis to suppress rice blast

Meiling Liang et al.

Summary: Flavonoids in plants, such as tangeretin, have shown potential as antioxidants and inhibitors of the fungal pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae. Tangeretin delays the formation of appressoria of M. oryzae and blocks blast lesions on rice plants by interfering with conidial cell death. Overexpression of NADPH oxidases NOX1 or NOX2 reduces sensitivity to tangeretin treatment, indicating a possible target for regulating redox signaling and ferroptosis in M. oryzae.

Intersection between Redox Homeostasis and Autophagy: Valuable Insights into Neurodegeneration

Hyungsun Park et al.

Summary: Autophagy and redox homeostasis play protective roles in neurodegenerative diseases, with oxidative stress being a major signal for Autophagy induction. Autophagy can remove ROS and damaged organelles to maintain redox balance in the brain, but the interaction between redox homeostasis and Autophagy is not fully understood. Pharmacological or genetic induction of Autophagy may be a promising strategy for treating neurodegenerative disorders.

The circadian-controlled PIF8-BBX28 module regulates petal senescence in rose flowers by governing mitochondrial ROS homeostasis at night

Yi Zhang et al.

Summary: Research in roses has identified a circadian-regulated RhPIF8-RhBBX28 module that controls flower senescence by governing mitochondrial ROS homeostasis. RhBBX28 gene influences respiratory metabolism-related gene expression and directly represses SUCCINATE DEHYDROGENASE 1, a key player in mtROS homeostasis. The study sheds light on the regulation of ROS homeostasis in nonphotosynthetic organs like petals.

Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase OsMEK2 and OsMPK1 Signaling Is Required for Ferroptotic Cell Death in Rice-Magnaporthe oryzae Interactions

Sarmina Dangol et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the involvement of rice MAP kinase signaling cascades in iron- and ROS-dependent ferroptotic cell death responses to M. oryzae infection. OsMPK1 interacts with the WRKY90 transcription factor in the nucleus, and overexpression of OsMEK2 and OsMPK1 induces ferroptotic cell death in response to M. oryzae. These findings highlight the regulatory role of OsMEK2 and OsMPK1 in iron- and ROS-dependent cell death pathways in rice-M. oryzae interactions.
