A Method to Quantify Mean Hypertension Treatment Daily Dose Intensity Using Health Care System Data

Lillian Min et al.

Summary: This study developed and validated a method to precisely quantify dose intensity of hypertension treatment using only health system administrative pharmacy fill data. Results suggest that health system pharmacy data can accurately quantify hypertension regimen dose intensity, which can be utilized in future research or quality improvement efforts related to hypertension treatment in older adults.

Clinical outcomes of modifying hypertension treatment intensity in older adults treated to low blood pressure

Carole E. Aubert et al.

Summary: In older adults with tightly controlled systolic blood pressure, deintensification of antihypertensive treatment was associated with worse outcomes compared to intensification or stable treatment. Advanced statistical methods did not fully correct for potential confounding by indication, suggesting the need for further research in this population.
