Quantifying the Overall Efficiency of Circularly Polarized Emitters

Lorenzo Arrico et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new concept of CPL brightness (B-CPL), which takes into consideration the absorption extinction coefficient and quantum yield in addition to the g(lum) factor, to comprehensively evaluate the efficiency of CPL emitters. By calculating B-CPL values for over 180 compounds and analyzing the data distribution for main classes of CPL molecular emitters, this tool can aid in contextualizing new CPL active compounds and guiding the selection of molecular systems for specific CPL applications.

Carbo[n]helicenes Restricted to Enantiomerize: An Insight into the Design Process of Configurationally Stable Functional Chiral PAHs

Prince Ravat

Summary: The interconversion of enantiomers is a key stereodynamic feature of carbo[n]helicenes, with the Gibbs activation energy determining their configurational stability. This minireview provides an overview of the mechanism, recent developments, and factors affecting the enantiomerization of [n]helicenes, aiming to accelerate the design process of configurationally stable functional chiral molecules based on helicene substructures. Additionally, misconceptions and irregularities in the recent literature on terms such as racemization and enantiomerization, as well as the calculation of activation parameters for [n]helicenes and related compounds, are addressed.

Chiroptical Properties of Symmetric Double, Triple, and Multiple Helicenes

Tadashi Mori

Summary: This review focuses on the chiroptical properties of multiple helicenes, with an emphasis on the impact of the arrangement of multiple helices on the chiroptical responses. Although the number of multiple helicenes reported is limited, insights into the design principle for advanced chiroptical materials through the proper arrangement of multiple helices are provided.

Deracemization of Carbohelicenes by a Chiral Perylene Bisimide Cyclophane Template Catalyst

Manuel Weh et al.

Summary: The deracemization process of a racemic mixture of chiral molecules into enantioenriched compounds is achieved by an inherently chiral perylene bisimide cyclophane, which can transform [5]-helicene into an enantioenriched mixture with a high enantiomeric excess. The macrocyclic supramolecular host shows strong and enantioselective binding towards homochiral carbohelicenes, suggesting potential applications in template-catalyzed deracemization processes.

Chiral Perylene Bisimide Dyes by Interlocked Arene Substituents in the Bay Area

Rebecca Renner et al.

Summary: A series of Perylene Bisimide (PBI) dyes with various aryl substituents in 1,6,7,12 bay positions have been synthesized through Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. These molecules exhibit a large and fixed twist angle of the PBI pi-core due to high steric congestion, leading to substantial racemization barriers and the potential for isolation of enantiopure atropoisomers. Variable temperature NMR studies reveal a multitude of conformational isomers in solution, interconverted via smaller activation barriers, while their redox and optical properties have been characterized through various spectroscopic techniques.

Supramolecular asymmetric catalysis mediated by crown ethers and related recognition systems

Zibin Zhang et al.

Summary: The combination of supramolecular chemistry and catalysis has led to the emergence of supramolecular catalysis as an intersectant and challenging research field. Supramolecular asymmetric catalysis, with advantages in constructing chiral catalyst libraries and improving catalytic activity and stereoselectivity, has attracted growing attention and promoted the development of green and sustainable chemistry. The design and construction of supramolecular chiral catalysts, as well as their applications in catalyzing asymmetric reactions or modulating catalytic activity and stereoselectivity are systematically introduced in this review.
