Confinement Capillarity of Thin Coating for Boosting Solar-Driven Water Evaporation

Zhenxing Wang et al.

Summary: Using confinement capillarity on porous sponge with photothermal thin coating is an effective way to enhance solar-driven water evaporation rate. The formation of ultrathin water layer can increase evaporation area and prevent excessive water heating, significantly improving the rate of solar steam generation. Photothermal materials with confinement capillarity possess high evaporation rate and anti-salt-accumulation property.

Tunable Sponge-Like Hierarchically Porous Hydrogels with Simultaneously Enhanced Diffusivity and Mechanical Properties

Yousif Alsaid et al.

Summary: A universal approach called cononsolvency photopolymerization has been developed to overcome the trade-off between swelling and mechanical properties in hydrogels. By using this method, hydrogels with unique open porous networks and continuous microchannels are created, resulting in record-high volumetric (de)swelling speeds.

Hierarchical Photothermal Fabrics with Low Evaporation Enthalpy as Heliotropic Evaporators for Efficient, Continuous, Salt-Free Desalination

Zixiao Liu et al.

Summary: Hierarchical PAN@CuS fabrics were developed to reduce water-evaporation enthalpy and prevent solid salt crystallization, leading to a heliotropic evaporator prototype. This model showed high-rate evaporation and saturated brine production under solar irradiation, with minimal reduction in evaporation rate under inclined sunlight compared to traditional floating evaporators.

Solar absorber with tunable porosity to control the water supply velocity to accelerate water evaporation

Yan Li et al.

Summary: The introduction of a submillimeter pore PTE in this study aims to accelerate water evaporation by controlling the water supply velocity. By adjusting the porosity and capillary height of PTE, a moderate water supply velocity was obtained, leading to an increased evaporation rate in solar absorbers.
