Influence of the Molecular Orientation and Ionization of Self-Assembled Monolayers in Biosensors: Application to Genosensors of Prostate Cancer Antigen 3

Paulo A. Raymundo-Pereira et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that efficient immobilization of ssDNA probes for prostate cancer antigen 3 biomarker detection can be achieved by modifying SAMs with ionized terminal groups. The highest sensitivity was observed for sensors assembled over MAA monolayers on gold prepared in ethanol and water at pH 12.5. Protonated carboxylic acid groups on MAA films prepared in water at pH 7.0 and 2.5 hindered biomarker attachment, while well-organized SAMs of 11-MUA showed good detection performance with slightly higher limits of detection.

Electrochemical Detection of Prostate Cancer Biomarker PCA3 Using Specific RNA-Based Aptamer Labelled with Ferrocene

Alexei Nabok et al.

Summary: This study reports on the feasibility of electrochemical detection of the prostate cancer biomarker PCA3 using a specific RNA aptamer labelled with ferrocene on a screen-printed gold electrode. The results demonstrate successful detection in buffer solutions, with kinetics studies showing high specificity and a potential affinity constant for future diagnostic applications in prostate cancer detection.
