The effects of eight serum lipid biomarkers on age-related macular degeneration risk: a Mendelian randomization study

Xikun Han et al.

Summary: Genetically predicted higher levels of HDL-C and ApoA1 are associated with increased risk of all AMD subtypes, while LDL-C, ApoB, CHOL, and non-HDL-C levels are linked to decreased risk of intermediate and GA AMD but not CNV. Genetically predicted TG levels are associated with decreased risk of different AMD subtypes. Sensitivity analyses showed no evidence of directional pleiotropy effects, and adjusting for correlated lipid biomarkers in multivariable MR analyses yielded similar results.

Thyroid function, sex hormones and sexual function: a Mendelian randomization study

Alisa D. Kjaergaard et al.

Summary: The study found an association between thyroid dysfunction and sex hormone levels, but causality is still unclear. At a genetic level, thyroid hormones have an impact on sex hormone levels, but there is no clear association with sexual function.

Thyroid Function and Mood Disorders: A Mendelian Randomization Study

Aleksander Kus et al.

Summary: The study found that minor variations in thyroid function do not affect the risk of major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD), suggesting that depressive symptoms should not be attributed to minor thyroid function variations. However, borderline associations suggest further investigation into the effect of thyroid hormone treatment in BD is necessary.
