Welfare analysis of introducing private label packaged salads into the US market

Xiao Meng et al.

Summary: This study used the BLP method to analyze consumer demand and firm supply in the 2005 US market for packaged salads. Findings suggest that consumers are price sensitive but less so with higher income, and they show strong brand loyalty towards brands with specific features like organic certification. Introducing private label packaged salads increased market competition, leading to higher total welfare and improved consumer outcomes.

Which meat (substitute) to buy? Is front of package information reliable to identify the healthier and more natural choice?

Thies Petersen et al.

Summary: Environmental, ethical, and health concerns have led to an increased interest in meat substitutes (MS) and the labeling of credence attributes. A study analyzing the nutritional quality of different meat products found that MS contain fewer 'nutrients to limit' and food additives compared to red meat and poultry meat innovations. However, the study also revealed that Front-of-Package (FOP) labeling is not always a reliable indicator of nutritional quality and naturalness.

Dried small fish provide nutrient densities important for the first 1000 days

Kendra A. Byrd et al.

Summary: Increasing fish consumption among pregnant/lactating women and children can help improve diets and address nutrient deficiencies in sub-Saharan Africa. Fish-based recipes such as fish powder and fish chutney can provide significant amounts of essential nutrients like calcium, DHA, iron, and zinc. Fish powder, with its high nutrient density, can be a beneficial supplement for combating nutrient deficiencies in populations with inadequate nutrient intakes.
