Nontrivial band geometry in an optically active system

Jiahuan Ren et al.

Summary: This study presents a direct measurement of the Berry curvature and quantum metric of photon modes in a planar cavity containing a birefringent organic microcrystal, showcasing the potential application of optical activity. The experiment conducted at room temperature and visible wavelength highlights the use of organic materials for implementing non-magnetic and low-cost topological photonic devices. The authors' direct measurement of the nontrivial Berry curvature in a birefringent continuous organic system with emergent optical activity offers new insights in the field of topological photonics.

Summary: This study demonstrates the fabrication of microscale organic photonic integrated circuits from two electronically different flexible crystals using a mechanophotonics approach. Mechanical micromanipulation of the crystals with atomic force cantilever tip results in reconfigurable geometries, including three mu-OPICs. These circuits operate through passive- and active-waveguiding mechanisms, depending on the crystal's electronic nature, providing direction-specific optical outputs.

Ultralong-Range Polariton-Assisted Energy Transfer in Organic Microcavities

Kyriacos Georgiou et al.

Summary: This study investigates polariton-mediated energy transfer between coupled states in strong-coupled microcavities over mesoscopic distances. By separating thin-films of two J-aggregated molecular dyes with a spacer layer up to 2 micrometers thick, strong light-matter coupling and hybridisation between excitonic transitions were identified. The process of energy transfer through polaritons was found to be enhanced compared to non-cavity control structures.

Summary: In this study, it was found that resonance between cavity mode and donor/acceptor can promote energy transfer, but the polariton-mediated energy transfer mechanisms behind different strong coupling systems are different. The time evolution of the mean photon number of each polariton state under different strongly coupled states were calculated using the quantum Tavis-Cummings theory to analyze the energy transfer effect.
