Stable Silicon Anodes by Molecular Layer Deposited Artificial Zincone Coatings

Tiansheng Mu et al.

Summary: The stable interface between silicon anodes and electrolytes is crucial for reversible electrochemical cycling in lithium-ion batteries. In this study, a zincone polymer coating was controllably deposited on a silicon electrode using molecular layer deposition to serve as an artificial solid electrolyte interface, leading to improved lithium storage performance, high reversible capacity, outstanding cycling stability, and superior rate capability. The in situ conversion of the zincone coating also provides opportunities for constructing functional interfaces on other electrode surfaces, such as lithium/sodium metal.
