Switching to Progressively Reduced Nicotine Content Cigarettes in Smokers With Low Socioeconomic Status: A Double-Blind Randomized Clinical Trial

Summary: A study conducted in the USA on very low nicotine content (VLNC) cigarettes showed that the VLNC group had higher attrition rate and lower compliance but smoked fewer cigarettes and had lower cotinine levels. Compliance with VLNC cigarettes was associated with successful cessation in a small proportion of participants at the three-month follow-up.
