Experimental investigation on impact and spreading dynamics of a single ethanol-water droplet on a heated surface

Hong Liu et al.

Summary: Ethanol additive significantly influences the impact dynamics and spreading characteristics of droplets, compensating for the negative effects of small Weber numbers mainly due to lower surface tension and Marangoni effect caused by concentration gradient. The impact behavior shows complex dependence on surface temperature and Weber number, with a regime map that is greatly affected by ethanol additive.

Impact of the equilibrium relationship between deposition and wettability behavior on the high-efficiency utilization of pesticides

Lifei He et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the deposition and wettability of hexaconazole with surfactants on the surfaces of healthy leaves and powdery mildew leaves of cucumber. Results showed that adjusting the spray volume of the pesticide solution with added surfactants can increase the deposition rate without reducing the prevention and control effect. The wetting behavior of pesticide solutions can be improved by carefully balancing the spray volume and surfactant type used.

Contact line-based model for the Cassie-Wenzel transition of a sessile droplet on the hydrophobic micropillar-structured surfaces

Bo Hou et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the forces and critical conditions on static sessile droplets deposited on hydrophobic micropillar-structured surfaces, proposing a new force-balance model which showed better agreement with experimental results compared to classical models. Integration of depinning mechanisms into the model allows for reliable estimations of critical conditions for the C-W transition during evaporation, providing appropriate geometric parameters for achieving high hydrophobic stability.

Water droplet bouncing dynamics

Xingjian Yu et al.

Summary: The dynamics of water droplet bouncing is highly dependent on liquid properties, surface characteristics, and ambient pressure. Achieving no droplet/surface contact, which is crucial for droplet bouncing, can be realized through various methods such as lowering the Weber number of droplet, designing hydrophobic surfaces, actively maintaining the air/vapor film, vibrating the liquid bath, and applying electric/magnetic/pressure fields.

Analysing the preference for pesticide spray to be deposited at leaf-tips

Zhichong Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that pesticides tend to deposit larger quantities at the leaf tips of plants, possibly influenced by leaf elasticity. Experimental results showed that deposition rapidly increases at leaf elasticity <5 N m(-1) under different leaf tilt angles.

Performance matching between the surface structure of cucumber powdery mildew in different growth stages and the properties of surfactant solution

Lifei He et al.

Summary: The growth of powdery mildew on cucumber leaves can be divided into four distinct stages based on surface texture characteristics. The 3D surface structures of powdery mildew on leaves had individual characteristics at different stages, with the highest level of spread and height in the last growth stage. The surface free energy values, contact angle measurements, and surfactant concentration all influenced the wetting state of droplets on powdery mildew-covered leaves.

Regulating Droplet Wetting and Pinning Behaviors on Pathogen-Modified Hydrophobic Surfaces: Strategies and Working Mechanisms

Lifei He et al.

Summary: Hydrophobic surfaces modified by pathogens in agricultural production reduce the utilization of pesticides, and surfactants are commonly added to improve wetting and spreading properties. This study found that nonionic surfactants are more effective than cationic surfactants for improving the wetting and spreading of pesticide solutions on cucumber powdery mildew leaves.
