Experimental and Theoretical Insight into the Facet-Dependent Mechanisms of NO Oxidation Catalyzed by Structurally Diverse Mn2O3 Nanocrystals

Ying Xin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of different exposed crystal facets on the catalytic performance of Mn2O3 for NO oxidation by constructing rod- and particle-like Mn2O3 nanocrystals. The results show that different crystal structures lead to diverse catalytic behaviors of Mn2O3, especially in terms of poisoning resistance. Additionally, this work provides valuable design principles for future studies to improve other metal oxide catalysts.

Manipulating Surface Termination of Perovskite Manganate for Oxygen Activation

Xiyang Wang et al.

Summary: One of the key challenges limiting the utilization of ABO(3) perovskite oxides in heterogeneous catalysis is the dominant presence of catalytically inactive A-site cations. Engineering of B-site terminated perovskites is considered effective to address this issue, although it has not been fully successful to date. By synthesizing a Mn-terminated perovskite via a one-pot hydrothermal method, the study demonstrates improved catalytic activity and stability for CO oxidation.

Insight into N2O Formation Over Different Crystal Phases of MnO2 During Low-Temperature NH3-SCR of NO

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: Different crystal phases of MnO2 were synthesized and tested for NH3-SCR of NO and NH3 oxidation performances, showing varying reactivities towards oxygen and NH3 species on the catalyst surfaces. Alpha-MnO2 exhibited superior SCR performance for NOx conversion, while beta-MnO2 showed lower reactivity for N2O production due to NH3 adsorbed at Lewis sites. Gamma-MnO2 yielded similar NOx conversion rates as alpha-MnO2 but produced more N2O from SCR reactions. Delta-MnO2 mainly generated N2O from SCR reactions and had difficulty reacting with O-2.

Synthesis of α-MnO2-like rod catalyst using YMn2O5 A-site sacrificial strategy for efficient benzene oxidation

Qilei Yang et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel alpha-MnO2-like rod catalyst prepared via an acid etching route, which exhibits significantly improved benzene oxidation activity, especially at lower temperatures. The excellent catalytic performance is attributed to the catalyst's low-temperature reducibility and abundant surface-active oxygen species, making it a promising alternative to commercial noble metal catalysts for the elimination of volatile organic pollutants.

Regulating oxygen activity of perovskites to promote NOx oxidation and reduction kinetics

Jonathan Hwang et al.

Summary: Understanding the adsorption and oxidation of NO on metal oxides is an important topic in environmental and atmospheric chemistry. Surface oxygen activity on La1-xSrxCoO3 perovskites dictates the adsorption and oxidation kinetics of NO, with increasing surface oxygen activity leading to stronger adsorption and oxidation kinetics, but too strong NO adsorption can poison surface oxygen sites.
