Air-stable and efficient electron doping of monolayer MoS2 by salt-crown ether treatment

Hiroto Ogura et al.

Summary: Efficient n-type doping of monolayer MoS2 using KOH/benzo-18-crown-6 is reported, leading to air-stable MoS2 with a three orders of magnitude increase in on-current and metallic-type temperature dependence as dopant concentration increases. High electron density of 3.4 x 10(13) cm(-2) is observed in highly doped MoS2, supported by first-principles calculations showing electron doping via surface charge transfer. Patterned doping is shown to improve contact resistance in MoS2-based devices.
