This article introduces a new algorithm for obtaining a three-dimensional (3-D) radar coverage area, which enables the calculation of a radar coverage area, as well as a viewshed of the area. Its primary use is in the visualization of wireless communication systems and land mobile radio services. The algorithm also takes into account some environmental factors that affect the wave propagation, such as the refraction of waves, reflection from a rough surface, and the curvature of the earth. The algorithm is now operational in the province of Tehran, Iran.
