Seebeck-driven transverse thermoelectric generation

Weinan Zhou et al.

Summary: This study utilizes the Seebeck effect to drive transverse thermoelectric generation, which shows great potential for energy harvesting and heat sensing applications, especially with the orthogonal geometry in the heat-to-charge current conversion. By hybridizing Seebeck effect and anomalous Hall effect in a closed circuit comprising thermoelectric and magnetic materials, a similar symmetry to the anomalous Nernst effect can be achieved in transverse thermoelectric generation. The Seebeck-effect-driven transverse thermopower is found to be several orders of magnitude larger than the anomalous-Nernst-effect-driven thermopower, indicating a promising unconventional approach for developing applications of transverse thermoelectric generation.

Thermoelectric properties and service stability of Ag-containing Cu2Se

Zhicheng Jin et al.

Summary: Silver-containing Cu2Se samples were synthesized and studied to explore their thermoelectric properties and service stability. The introduction of silver in Cu2Se was found to significantly impact thermoelectric properties but have little influence on stability. Electrical conductivity was proposed as a simple indicator to predict the stability and thermoelectric performance of Cu2Se-based materials, with recommendations for leg geometry to fabricate stable and efficient Cu1.97Ag0.03Se-based thermoelectric modules.

Unveiling the origins of low lattice thermal conductivity in 122-phase Zintl compounds

K. Guo et al.

Summary: The study reveals the origins of low lattice thermal conductivity in 122-phase Zintl compounds, attributed to important aspects including atomic constituents, their arrangements, and chemical bonding. The coupling between acoustic branches and low-frequency optical branches, as well as anisotropic chemical bonding, are responsible for high anharmonicity, favoring low phonon velocity and small relaxation time. This work offers guidance for designing high-performance Zintl thermoelectric materials with ultralow lattice thermal conductivity.

Enhanced Stability and Thermoelectric Performance in Cu1.85Se-Based Compounds

Jing Jiang et al.

Summary: Recent studies have found that co-doping with Li/Bi can effectively optimize the hole concentration in cubic copper selenium-based compounds, significantly improving their thermoelectric performance and exhibiting outstanding critical voltage values at high temperatures. Additionally, alloying sulfur in these compounds can greatly reduce thermal conductivity, further enhancing thermoelectric performance.
