Recent progress in bismuth ferrite-based thin films as a promising photovoltaic material

Mohammad Moein Seyfouri et al.

Summary: The application of ferroelectric oxides in photovoltaic devices, particularly bismuth ferrite thin films, has been revitalized. These materials exhibit above-bandgap photovoltage and switchable photocurrent, and can display new functionalities when coupled with ferroic orders. Research has focused on enhancing photovoltaic performance, emphasizing design principles for tailoring the photovoltaic effect through interface effects of electrodes and oxygen vacancies, as well as bandgap engineering. Future perspectives include integrating bismuth ferrite-based perovskites with other solar absorbers for highly efficient photovoltaic devices.
