Engineering of Mixed Eu3+/Tb3+ Metal-Organic Frameworks Luminescent Thermometers with Tunable Sensitivity

Virgile Trannoy et al.

Summary: This study optimizes the thermometric performances of luminescent probes by reporting a series of mixed Eu3+-Tb3+ metal-organic frameworks, showing a maximum relative sensitivity between 0.19 and 0.44% K-1 at temperatures between 240 and 340 K. Additionally, a meticulous theoretical investigation of the Tb3+-to-Eu3+ energy transfer was conducted to determine the predominant pathway of the energy transfer, providing clear evidence of the significant influence of the Eu/Tb ratio on the energy transfer between Ln(3+) emitting centers.

Effect of Ge:Si ratio and charging energy on carriers trapping in Y2(Ge,Si)O5:Pr powders observed with thermoluminescence methods

Malgorzata Sojka et al.

Summary: Oxyorthosilicates have a long history in luminescent applications, such as phosphors and scintillators. This study provides detailed research on the thermoluminescent properties of Y-2(Ge-x,Si1-x)O-5:Pr, exploring the management of electron trap depths by adjusting the Ge/Si ratio. Strong thermoluminescence is observed from all compositions after X-ray radiation, but the efficiency of charging traps with UV-C photons decreases systematically as the Si content increases.

Boltzmann Thermometry in Cr3+-Doped Ga2O3 Polymorphs: The Structure Matters!

Michele Back et al.

Summary: The electronic structures and thermometric performances of Cr3+-doped alpha-Ga2O3 and beta-Ga2O3 polymorphs were compared, revealing a linear relationship between the T-4(2)-E-2 energy gap and the CF strength Dq. This trend could provide guiding principles for designing effective Cr3+-based Boltzmann thermometers. Additionally, beta-Ga2O3:Cr3+ particles were demonstrated to locally measure thermal variations during a catalytic reaction, showcasing their potential for real-world applications.

Summary: A new series of 3D lanthanide frameworks were synthesized and analyzed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compounds exhibit different magnetic and photoluminescence properties, with compound 2 showing antiferromagnetic coupling and compound 3 showing ferromagnetic interaction above 40 K. The emission spectra of the compounds combine intra-4f emission of the Ln ions with that of the ligand, depending on temperature, indicating thermally activated energy transfer processes.

Luminescence, chiroptical, magnetic and ab initio crystal-field characterizations of an enantiopure helicoidal Yb(iii) complex

Frederic Gendron et al.

Summary: The electronic structure of a chiral Yb(iii)-based complex has been fully determined through a combination of experimental magnetic, luminescence, and chiroptical characterizations with ab initio wavefunction calculations. The high resolution electronic structure diagram and the nature of different states involved in the magnetic and chiroptical properties have been identified. Spectroscopic measurements were used to reproduce the magnetic properties, while advanced ab initio calculations revealed that global chiroptical spectra are a sum of entangled transitions with similar or opposite polarizations.
