Simultaneously enhanced strength and plasticity of Ag2Se-based thermoelectric materials endowed by nano-twinned CuAgSe secondary phase

Jie Chen et al.

Summary: The introduction of nano-twinned CuAgSe secondary phase can simultaneously increase the compressive strength and plasticity of beta-Ag2Se pellets without obviously sacrificing the thermoelectric performance. This research suggests that developing high-performance thermoelectric materials with high strength and plasticity by introducing nano-twinned secondary phase is a promising strategy.

Ductile Ag20S7Te3 with Excellent Shape-Conformability and High Thermoelectric Performance

Shiqi Yang et al.

Summary: A new ductile inorganic TE material, Ag20S7Te3, with high TE performance, has been reported in this study, showing better ductility and shape-conformability than Ag2S. The high carrier mobility and low lattice thermal conductivity of Ag20S7Te3 result in a maximum figure of merit of 0.80 at 600 K. This study paves the way for the development of hetero-shaped TEG.

Ultralow Lattice Thermal Conductivity and Superhigh Thermoelectric Figure-of-Merit in (Mg, Bi) Co-Doped GeTe

Tong Xing et al.

Summary: This study achieved a superhigh thermoelectric figure-of-merit (zT) of approximately 2.5 at 700 K by regulating the (Mg, Bi) co-doping in GeTe. The research found that (Mg, Bi) co-doping can effectively reduce the lattice thermal conductivity of GeTe compounds and introduce additional electrons to optimize carrier concentration, thereby improving the overall thermoelectric performance of the material.

Summary: This study investigates the deformation mechanism in Ag2Se during phase transition, revealing a new ordered high-temperature phase α'-Ag2Se. The stretch/fold of Se-Se bonds plays a key role in enabling rapid and large deformation, while different bonding states lead to the formation of nanoslabs and high concentration of dislocations, providing insights into phase transition processes in other functional materials.

Porous bismuth antimony telluride alloys with excellent thermoelectric and mechanical properties

Peng Zhao et al.

Summary: Porous BiSbTe alloys with a porosity of ca. 0.15 were successfully prepared through sequential high-pressure synthesis, ball milling, and spark plasma sintering. These porous samples exhibit greatly enhanced thermoelectric and mechanical properties, with the optimal Bi0.42Sb1.58Te3 showing a maximum ZT of 1.27 and excellent mechanical strengths. The unique microstructure with closely bonded equiaxed grains and uniformly distributed pores promotes the development of porous thermoelectric materials.
