Complementary effect of co-doping aliovalent elements Bi and Sb in self-compensated SnTe-based thermoelectric materials

Samuel Kimani Kihoi et al.

Summary: Research on Pb-free thermoelectric materials has shown promising properties in terms of tunable electronic structure and scalable thermal conductivity. By self-compensating Sn, doping with Bi, and further alloying with Sb, the materials exhibit significantly reduced thermal conductivity and improved electronic properties. Multiple aliovalent dopants result in decreased carrier concentration and subsequent electrical conductivity. The maximum ZT value of around 0.8 at 823 K in the Sn0.90Bi0.03Sb0.10Te composition indicates good potential for Sb co-doped SnTe-based materials.
