Comparative seasonal assessment of pollution and health risks associated with heavy metals in water, sediment and Fish of Buriganga and Turag River in Dhaka City, Bangladesh

Summary: This study assessed the concentration changes of six toxic substances in water, sediment, and fish from two urban streams in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The results showed that the heavy metals exceeded the acceptable level for drinking water, indicating potential harm from using water and cooking in these rivers. Additionally, the high concentrations of Cr and Pb in fish muscles suggest potential risks for fish consumers.

Summary: The study investigated seasonal distribution, pollution evaluation, and health risk of selected heavy metals in the surface water of Taylor creek in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Analysis showed seasonal changes in the distribution of lead, chromium, copper, and zinc, with low to moderate contamination levels and no appreciable non-carcinogenic risks identified through oral intake and dermal contact. The findings will be useful for residents and government agencies in decision-making related to water contamination by heavy metals.
