Fungal endophytes from leaves of Avicennia marina growing in semi-arid environment as a promising source for bioactive compounds

A. M. A. Khalil et al.

Summary: Endophytic fungi residing inside plant tissues are proven to be a valuable source of bioactive natural products. In this study, seventeen isolates of endophytic fungi were obtained from the leaves of Avicennia marina, showing antimicrobial and antioxidant activities, with low cytotoxicity against tumor cell lines. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of the most potent fungus extract confirmed the presence of bioactive compounds, suggesting these fungi as a potential source for drug discovery.

Ecofriendly novel synthesis of tertiary composite based on cellulose and myco-synthesized selenium nanoparticles: Characterization, antibiofilm and biocompatibility

Mohammed Abu-Elghait et al.

Summary: The study synthesized a novel tertiary composite (TC) consisting of TEMPO cellulose (TOC), chitosan, starch, and myco-synthesized Se-NPs. The antimicrobial and anti-biofilm properties of selenium nanoparticles (Se-NPs) were effectively established, with TC showing constant biofilm inhibition against P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, and C albicans. However, cytotoxicity results showed alterations in lung fibroblast cells treated with Se-NPs and TC.
