Lifeline Crisis Chat: Coding form development and findings on chatters' risk status and counselor behaviors

Alison M. Lake et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a reliable tool for data abstraction from crisis chat transcripts, describing chatters' suicide risk status and counselor behaviors. Results showed that the Lifeline Crisis Chat serves a young, high-risk population, with counselors engaging in rapport-building, problem-solving, and suicide risk assessment in most chats. Efforts are needed to ensure that suicide risk is assessed in every chat session.
