The Influence of Polystyrene Microspheres Abundance on Development and Feeding Behavior of Artemia salina (Linnaeus, 1758)

Marco Albano et al.

Summary: The study evaluated how 10 μm polyethylene microspheres were ingested by Artemia salina larvae within the first 7 days of their life cycle and the impact on their health. Results showed that larvae ingested microplastics in a dose-dependent manner and were significantly influenced by food availability. The worst effect on developmental stages was observed at 168 hours with a food source, with a significant reduction in microalgal feeding at the highest microplastics concentration.
