Unusual thermal performance in Cu-60Ag by WC nanoparticles

Shuaihang Pan et al.

Summary: The study found that Cu-60Ag alloy with 10 vol% WC nanoparticles exhibits unexpectedly high thermal conductivity, surpassing theoretical upper limits. The enhancement of thermal transport in Cu-60Ag by less conductive WC nanoparticles suggests potential for developing nanoparticles reinforced metals with superior mechanical strength and high thermal conductivity. Further thermal analysis, such as the 3 omega-method, may be required to fully understand the influencing factors of this phenomenon.

Size Control of In Situ Synthesized TiB2 Particles in Molten Aluminum

Jie Yuan et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized TiB2 nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution in molten aluminum at high temperatures by controlling the reaction temperature, and also developed an interface diffusion-controlled model to reveal the size control mechanism. Temperature plays a crucial role in regulating the average size of synthesized nanoparticles, while the dilution of reactant salt is essential for maintaining a steady reaction environment.

Interfacial thermal conductance of in situ aluminum-matrix nanocomposites

Shuaihang Pan et al.

Summary: In this study, thermal properties of Al nanocomposites were investigated, including thermal diffusivity, heat capacity, and thermal conductivity. The interfacial thermal conductance between aluminum and various nanoparticles was quantitatively analyzed, and an engineering model for interfacial thermal transport was proposed and validated, showing the importance of interfacial separation energy and bonding for effective thermal transport.
