Liver transplantation for acute liver failure in a SARS-CoV-2 PCR-positive patient

Summary: This case report presents the successful liver transplantation in an 18-year-old African-American woman with COVID-19-related acute liver failure despite ongoing SARS-CoV-2 PCR positivity. The patient met criteria for urgent transplantation due to her critical condition, and after posttransplant treatment with remdesivir, she showed significant recovery within three months. The case demonstrates that COVID-19 with SARS-CoV-2 PCR positivity may not always be a contraindication for transplantation in cases of acute liver failure.
