Influence of accelerated carbonation curing on the properties of self-compacting concrete mixtures containing different mineral fillers

Shamsad Ahmad et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that accelerated carbonation curing greatly improves the performance of self-compacting concrete mixtures, with a more effective treatment for LSP-SF-C compared to LSP-C. The properties of ACC-treated concrete specimens are comparable to those subjected to moist-curing for 7 days in terms of strength and other properties, although drying shrinkage is slightly higher.

Fresh and hardened properties of self-compacting concrete using metakaolin and GGBS as cement replacement

Abdallah Adnan Abdallah Al-Oran et al.

Summary: Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is a high-performance concrete that can be improved by replacing part of the cement. The inclusion of metakaolin improves early-age strength characteristics, while the addition of ground granulated blast furnace slag enhances workability. The study's findings are significant for optimizing the use of cement replacement materials in SCC.

Self-compacting concrete with blended short and long fibres: experimental investigation on the role of fibre blend proportion

Kazim Turk et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of blended micro and macro steel fibre addition on the fresh and hardened properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC). The results showed that when the micro steel fibre ratio exceeded 0.25%, it negatively affected the fresh properties of SCC, while positively influencing the compressive strength but reducing the splitting and flexural tensile strength. The inclusion of macro steel fibre resulted in the formation of multiple cracks and exhibited a deflection-hardening response in mixtures with higher contents of macro steel fibre.

Recycle of ground granulated blast furnace slag and fly ash on eco-friendly brick production

Okan Surul et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of bricks containing clay, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), and fly ash (FA) at different temperatures. The results show that an increase in firing temperature leads to decreased porosity and increased bulk density and compressive strength of the bricks. The addition of FA increases porosity and water absorption but reduces bulk density, compressive strength, and thermal conductivity of the bricks. GGBS content has minimal influence on the properties except for a significant increase in compressive strength. The use of industrial by-products as replacements for clay in bricks can provide eco-friendly alternatives and help reduce environmental impact.

Durability and microstructural studies on fly ash blended self-compacting geopolymer concrete

Mahima Ganeshan et al.

Summary: The effect of fly ash blending on self-compacting geopolymer concrete (SCGC) in terms of durability and microstructure was investigated. The inclusion of Class C fly ash did not exhibit any detrimental effects in SCGC, making it a viable option for use in hazardous environmental conditions.

Production of Portland pozzolana cement from rice husk ash

Samuel Kofi Tulashie et al.

Summary: This study found that the optimum compressive strength of mortar prisms made with Portland pozzolana cement (PPC) was achieved with a 20.00% composition of rice husk ash (RHA). However, the compressive strength of pit sand-cement mortar prisms with 20.00% RHA was lower on the 7th and 28th day. Micrographs and spectra from SEM, FTIR, and XRD analyses confirmed RHA as a suitable pozzolanic material for PPC production.

D. Suji et al.

Summary: This study optimized the composition of self-compacting concrete mixtures containing fly ash and manufactured sand using Taguchi-Grey relational analysis. The findings indicated that the content of fly ash had the highest impact on the properties of the concrete mixtures, and the optimized mixture met the recommended limits by EFNARC.

Blended cement binders containing bamboo leaf ash and ground clay brick waste for sustainable concrete

John Temitope Kolawole et al.

Summary: Bamboo leaf ash and ground clay brick have the potential to improve the sustainability of cementitious composites by reducing CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and costs. Combining them at a 10% each ratio can provide acceptable strength and resistance to chemical attack without increasing energy demand.

Physical, strength, and microscale properties of plastic fiber-reinforced concrete containing fine ceramics particles

Paul O. Awoyera et al.

Summary: By incorporating plastic fibers and ceramic waste into concrete, the workability decreased, but the concrete sample with 100% fine ceramics aggregates and 2.5% plastic fibers achieved the highest compressive strength. Tensile strength increased with curing age, and the water absorption of the concrete decreased with increasing content of ceramics and plastic fiber.
