Analysis on the research progress of library and information science since the new century

Summary: This study explores the mainstream research fields and frontiers of library science and information science since the new century and compares the two subdisciplines. By visualizing LIS journals using CiteSpace, knowledge maps of the two subdisciplines are drawn through co-occurrence descriptors network. Using burst detection algorithm, this study detects words of high frequency variation by investigating the time frequency distribution. The findings show that the research focus of library science has shifted from traditional to digital library, while information science has moved from information to data focus.

A comparative study of first and all-author bibliographic coupling analysis based on Scientometrics

Summary: By analyzing the intellectual structure and development trends of Scientometrics in two periods, it was found that the latter period had a clearer intellectual structure and stronger correlation and integration of research topics. There is a strong correlation between AABCA and FABCA, with each method having its own characteristics, such as AABCA being sensitive to detecting research hotspots and FABCA better reflecting the discipline's frontier and innovation. The combination of the two methods is a powerful and effective research approach to explore the discipline's intellectual structure and evolution trends.

Summary: Both all-author bibliographic coupling analysis (AABCA) and all-author co-citation analysis (AACA) play different roles in detecting the intellectual structure of a discipline. AABCA is able to better reflect the current status and trends in a discipline, while AACA is more sensitive to traditional stable research topics.
