Understanding the impact of information sources on COVID-19 related preventive measures in Finland

Summary: The study developed a structural model based on protection-motivation and cognitive load theories, to investigate the impact of social media, official websites, and other online news sources on individuals' motivation to adopt recommended COVID-19 preventive measures. Through data collected from university employees and students and analyzed using PLS-SEM, it was found that information overload from social media and other online news sources negatively affected individuals' intention to self-isolate during the pandemic by increasing perceived response costs and decreasing response efficacy.
