Exploring factors associated with crash severity on motorways in Pakistan

Numan Ahmad et al.

Summary: This study analyzes data on motorway crashes to identify major risk factors contributing to severe injuries, including speeding, drowsiness, wrong-way collisions, illegal pedestrian crossing, and aging drivers. Enhanced road safety enforcement measures are needed to reduce crash severity on high-speed limited-access facilities.

Determine the Number of Unknown Targets in Open World Based on Elbow Method

Fan Liu et al.

Summary: Generalized evidence theory, as an extension of Dempster-Shafer evidence theory, is capable of handling uncertain information fusion in the open world. This article proposes a new method based on the elbow method to detect the number of unknown targets, utilizing K-means clustering and re-updating the frame of discernment. Experiment results show the effectiveness and advantage of the proposed method in the open world scenario.

A conditional variational autoencoder based self-transferred algorithm for imbalanced classification

Yudi Zhao et al.

Summary: In this paper, a conditional variational autoencoder-based self-transferred algorithm is proposed to address highly imbalanced classification problems. The method utilizes information from both majority and minority classes for domain knowledge transfer, while conducting distribution learning, image generation, and dataset rebalancing in a unified framework. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach in both imbalanced datasets and real-world industrial applications.

Crash data augmentation using variational autoencoder

Zubayer Islam et al.

Summary: In this study, a data augmentation technique using variational autoencoder was proposed to reproduce crash data effectively. The generated data showed high statistical similarity to real data and outperformed other oversampling techniques like SMOTE and ADASYN in terms of specificity and sensitivity. The flexibility in decision boundary choice provided by VAE helped to overcome overfitting issues present in other methods.
