Mental Health and Coping in the Shadow of the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Israeli Case

Summary: The study found that psychological distress was associated with being in a younger age group, being a woman, having economic concerns, use of emotion and problem focused coping, and lower resilience. Concern for the health of family members was the strongest concern among all age groups but was highest among the younger age group. Younger age group suffered from higher levels of depression, anxiety, and somatization compared to the older age group, while the middle age group suffered from elevated levels of anxiety and somatization compared to the older age group.

Hope and Resilience During a Pandemic Among Three Cultural Groups in Israel: The Second Wave of Covid-19

Summary: The study aimed to explore the coping resources of hope and sense of coherence as resilience factors to reduce emotional distress in adults from three cultural groups in Israel during the chronic-stress situation of a pandemic. Differences were found between the cultural groups in terms of emotional distress and levels of hope, with Ultra-Orthodox Jews showing higher levels of resilience factors. Sense of coherence and intrapersonal hope played significant roles in explaining emotional distress among the participants.

Psychological Functioning of Slovene Adults during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Does Resilience Matter?

Summary: Women, younger individuals, and those with lower education levels had higher odds for less favourable psychological functioning during the COVID-19 outbreak, as did individuals with poorer health indicators and concerns about COVID-19 infection. Resilience played a crucial role in promoting good psychological functioning during the pandemic, buffering against the detrimental effects of demographic and health-related variables on mental health and perceived stress.
