Long-Term Evaluation of Drivers' Behavioral Adaptation to an Adaptive Collision Avoidance System

Husam Muslim et al.

Summary: By involving drivers in the design and evaluation of driver support systems, this study aims to enhance driving performance and safety in human-automation interaction in the long term. Results show that driver training and interaction with adaptive collision avoidance systems lead to reduced collisions and improved trust and understanding of the system over time.

Effects of a driver assistance system with foresighted deceleration control on the driving performance of elderly and younger drivers

Yuichi Saito et al.

Summary: In order to enhance the safety of elderly individuals on the roads, a proactive braking intervention system was proposed to assist drivers in uncertain situations and improve their awareness of potential hazards. Results from a public-road experiment involving elderly and younger drivers showed that proactive braking intervention enabled drivers to confirm safety near blind spots and be more sensitive to potential hazards, benefitting both elderly and inexperienced drivers.
