Subjective well-being and mental health during the pandemic outbreak: Exploring the role of institutional trust

Summary: This study examined the relationship between material adversities due to pandemic crisis, institutional trust, and subjective well-being and mental health among middle-aged and older adults aged 50+ in Europe. The findings showed that perceived insecurity in employment and housing, worsening finances, and difficulty paying for basic necessities significantly affected life satisfaction, happiness, self-rated health, mental health index, and psychological distress. Institutional trust partially mediated the relationship between perceived adversities and subjective well-being and mental health.

COVID-19: anxiety among hospital staff and associated factors

Summary: The study shows that during the COVID-19 pandemic, Finnish hospital workers experienced normal anxiety levels overall, but a sizeable portion had mild, moderate, or severe anxiety. Key risk factors for anxiety included young age, working in a university hospital, issues with cooperation among colleagues, difficulty concentrating at work, high physical and psychological workload, and fear of infection at work. The findings highlight the need for targeted support interventions for at-risk workers and emphasize the importance of easily accessible and cost-effective treatment interventions for hospital staff.
