In this study, layered Pt3Te4 and PtTe2 were successfully synthesized and characterized, showing promising electrocatalytic properties for hydrogen evolution and oxygen reduction reactions. The direct synthesis of these compounds from respective elements resulted in monoclinic and trigonal crystal structures, indicating potential applications in future catalysis.
Among 2D layered chalcogenides materials, platinum tellurides can form various stoichiometries with a layered structure that has attracted significant attention due to their yield of low overpotentials for hydrogen evolution reaction. In this work, layered Pt3Te4 and PtTe2 were synthesized and characterized, including their fundamental structural and electrochemical properties. We present a direct synthesis of Pt3Te4 and PtTe2 from the respective elements, resulting in a monoclinic and trigonal crystal structure, respectively. Their electrocatalytic properties were tested and compared with each other for the hydrogen evolution and oxygen reduction reactions, showing promising results for future catalytic applications.
