Benzobisoxazole Cruciforms: A Cross-conjugated Platform for Designing Tunable Donor/Acceptor Materials

Alfred A. Burney-Allen et al.

Summary: Four cross-conjugated molecules based on the BBO moiety were synthesized, with highly segregated HOMO and LUMO levels that could be tuned semi-autonomously through substitution. Experimental data showed significant variations in LUMO levels with increased electron-density along the 2,6-axis. Introducing relatively electron-deficient moieties led to a bathochromic shift in absorption profiles and stabilization of the LUMO.
