Real-space density functional theory adapted to cyclic and helical symmetry: Application to torsional deformation of carbon nanotubes

Abhiraj Sharma et al.

Summary: This study presents a tailored formulation and implementation of Kohn-Sham density functional theory for one-dimensional nanostructures, focusing on carbon nanotubes subject to torsional deformations. By developing symmetry-adapted variants and a parallel implementation, accurate simulations were conducted to investigate mechanical and electronic responses in both linear and nonlinear regimes. The results show good agreement with experimental observations, offering a promising approach for the study of nanostructures with cyclic and helical symmetries.
