Ultrasmall Mo2C in N-doped carbon material from bimetallic ZnMo-MOF for efficient hydrogen evolution

Yuanyuan Guo et al.

Summary: A convenient approach was proposed to synthesize ultrafine Mo2C nanoparticles embedded in hierarchically porous N-doped carbon material to obtain ZnMo-MI-1000, which demonstrated satisfying HER performance. The multiporous network of ZnMo-MI-1000 provides effective electrocatalytic kinetics in both acidic and alkaline media, serving as a highly active and durable nonprecious metal electrocatalyst for HER.

The mechanism and surface engineering of carbon encapsulate defects-rich molybdenum phosphide for the hydrogen evolution reaction in alkaline media

Bitao Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a defect-rich MoP encapsulated with a carbon shell was designed to enhance catalytic performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction. The synergistic effect between the carbon shell and defective sites was identified through theoretical calculations, showing that lattice defects determine active sites and thinner carbon shells enhance activity. The optimized overpotential in alkaline media for MoP/C was found to be 100 mV at 10 mA cm(-2) with a Tafel slope of 67.4 mV dec(-1), demonstrating long-term stability for 12 hours.

Designing a novel cactus-like nickel cobalt phosphide based electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution

Tayiba Ilyas et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized nickel-cobalt phosphide (Ni-Co-P) anchored on carbon fiber cloth (CFC) for advanced electrocatalytic applications, exhibiting unprecedented catalytic activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The high activity of this catalyst is mainly attributed to its large surface area and a large number of active sites, as deduced from cyclic-voltammetry (CV) and Tafel plot results.
