An updated systematic review and meta-analysis on adherence to mediterranean diet and risk of cancer

Jakub Morze et al.

Summary: This systematic review updated the evidence on the association between adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) and cancer mortality, site-specific cancer risk in the general population, all-cause mortality and cancer recurrence among cancer survivors. The analysis included 117 studies with 3,202,496 participants, showing an inverse association between highest adherence to MedDiet and various cancer risks, while moderate certainty of evidence was found for some outcomes.

Summary: Adherence to the Japanese Food Guide Spinning Top (JFG-ST) was positively associated with skeletal muscle mass in community-dwelling Japanese elderly adults, especially in men. This suggests the need for country-specific dietary recommendations for sarcopenia prevention.
