The current pursuit of aerogel nanocomposites is driven by their unique properties and applications, but hindered by high costs and mechanical limitations. However, nanotechnology offers solutions to these issues and enhances the functional potential for multidisciplinary research.
Presently, the quests for aerogel nanocomposites have escalated due to inherently unique and beneficial properties, which in addition to sol-gel chemistry have enlarged their scope of applications. Nevertheless, high cost of production and inferior mechanical behavior limit their scope of application. However, the advent of nanotechnology has presented panacea to this deficiency. Moreover, their inherent functionalities such as biodegradability, bioactivity, biocompatibility, and sol-gel chemistry have enhanced potentials in area of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary scientific researches. Therefore, this paper presents recently emerging trends in aerogel nanocomposites, as well as elucidations on applications and surfaces and interfaces.
