Singing in South Africa: monitoring the occurrence of humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) song near the Western Cape

E. C. Ross-Marsh et al.

Summary: Humpback whales in South Africa are found to produce prevalent, albeit seasonal, songs, mostly in September and October, with a higher prevalence at the most westerly sites. Diel patterns show that the likelihood of detecting song is higher in the early morning and late evening.
