Fractional diffusion theory of balanced heterogeneous neural networks

Asem Wardak et al.

Summary: Large numbers of spiking neurons interact to create complex neural dynamics with fluctuations at multiple scales, where heterogeneous, non-Gaussian properties play a significant role. The fractional diffusion theory provides an exact description of network activity states and identifies a dynamic state where neural responses are maximized. This theory offers a unified explanation for various experimental findings on neural dynamics at both individual neuron and network levels.
