New insights into the pathophysiology and clinical care of rare primary liver cancers

Elia Gigante et al.

Summary: Hepatocholangiocarcinoma, fibrolamellar carcinoma, hepatic haemangioendothelioma and hepatic angiosarcoma make up less than 5% of primary liver cancers, with unique genetic alterations driving some types. Diagnosis and treatment remain challenging due to the rarity of these cancers, with surgery and liver transplantation playing key roles in management. Limited research exists on the efficacy of locoregional therapies and systemic treatments.
