New species and records of Trichoderma isolated as mycoparasites and endophytes from cultivated and wild coffee in Africa

Summary: A survey in Africa revealed a previously unrecorded diversity of Trichoderma species in both wild and cultivated Coffea, as well as mycoparasitic on coffee rusts. The study identified 16 species, including four novel taxa, with two new species making up over 60% of total isolates. These African Trichoderma isolates could potentially be used in classical biological control to protect coffee plants from Hemileia vastatrix or reduce its impact through mycoparasitism, especially in the current coffee leaf rust crisis in Central America.
