Design, synthesis and evaluation of carbazole derivatives as potential antimicrobial agents

Yi-Jie Xue et al.

Summary: Novel carbazole derivatives containing different functional groups were synthesized and evaluated for their antimicrobial activities, showing potent inhibitory activities against various strains with low minimum inhibitory concentrations. The dihydrotriazine group was found to enhance antimicrobial potency and reduce toxicity, with compound 8f potentially exerting its antimicrobial effect by binding to dihydrofolate reductase.

HIV Infection a Risk Factor for Death among Hospitalized Persons with Candidemia, South Africa, 2012-2017

Nelesh P. Govender et al.

Summary: A study conducted in 29 hospitals in South Africa found that HIV-positive candidemia patients had a higher in-hospital mortality rate, but HIV-positive patients who received intensive care had a lower mortality rate. Therefore, outcomes of candidemia patients with HIV might be improved with intensive care.
