Gut microbiota dysbiosis promotes age-related atrial fibrillation by lipopolysaccharide and glucose-induced activation of NLRP3-inflammasome

Yun Zhang et al.

Summary: By using a faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) rat model, it was demonstrated that the high AF susceptibility of aged rats could be transmitted to a young host. Inhibition of inflammasome by a potent and selective inhibitor of the NLRP3 inflammasome resulted in a lower atrial fibrosis and AF susceptibility. Clinical studies showed that serum LPS and glucose levels were progressively increased in elderly patients compared to young individuals, with similar results confirmed in clinical AF patients.

Determination of Trimethylamine N-oxide and Betaine in Serum and Food by Targeted Metabonomics

Mingshuai He et al.

Summary: A method for targeted profiling of TMAO and betaine in serum and food samples was presented using one-step sample pretreatment and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The developed method demonstrated acceptable linear relationship, precision, stability, repeatability, and accuracy, and was successfully applied to detect TMAO and betaine levels in animal sera and various foods.
