Measuring the spectrum of primordial gravitational waves with CMB, PTA and laser interferometers

Paolo Campeti et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of measuring the primordial gravitational wave signal using various instruments and missions, such as CMB, PTA, and interferometers. Sensitivity curves and error bars for different models are presented, showing promising prospects for joint measurements by CMB and space-borne interferometers. The effect of astrophysical foreground contamination in each experiment is also evaluated.

Gravitational waves from the fragmentation of axion-like particle dark matter

Aleksandr Chatrchyan et al.

Summary: The misalignment mechanism efficiently produces light scalar bosons, making them an appealing dark matter candidate. However, in certain cases, self-interactions of these bosons can lead to fragmentation and production of gravitational waves. The stochastic GW background produced from this process can be enhanced by an extended ultrarelativistic phase, but is limited by the requirement that the dark matter remains sufficiently cold. In some cases, the resulting GWs may be detectable by future GW detectors, providing a complementary probe of this type of dark matter.

Whispers from the dark side: Confronting light new physics with NANOGrav data

Wolfram Ratzinger et al.

Summary: The NANOGrav collaboration has recently observed first evidence of a gravitational wave background in pulsar timing data, which could be due to new physics. They found that the signal can be well fit with peaked spectra expected from phase transitions or from the dynamics of axion-like particles in the early universe.

Testing clockwork axion with gravitational waves

Cheng-Wei Chiang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the gravitational waves produced by the Peccei-Quinn phase transition associated with the clockwork axion. The results show that GWs at different scales can be detected by different interferometers, and experimental data has excluded a significant portion of parameter space.

Nano-Hz Gravitational-Wave Signature from Axion Dark Matter

Naoya Kitajima et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the spectrum of the stochastic gravitational-wave background from U(1) gauge fields produced by axion dark matter can be accurately calculated using numerical lattice simulations to track nonlinear dynamics, predicting a circularly polarized gravitational-wave signature and having the potential to explain NANOGrav 12.5 yr data.

Summary: Simulation of the nonperturbative decay of ultralight scalars into Abelian gauge bosons reveals an excess of gravitational-wave signals beyond constraints across the entire parameter space under consideration, suggesting that gravitational-wave production from the decay of early dark energy may offer a unique probe of these models.
